Favorite Fall Hikes: Sweet Creek Falls

Sweet Creek in the Fall
Sweet Creek Falls is actually a favorite any season; you’ll enjoy mild weather in the winter, wildflowers in the spring, and shady green trees to keep you cool in the summer. But fall’s crisp air and golden hues beckon us to visit this sweet trail in October. For an easy hike, begin at the Homestead Trailhead, where a short segment of the path is barrier-free and wheelchair accessible, and continue approximately 1 mile to the Sweet Creek Trailhead. This segment of trail is wonderful for families with children, but the rich landscape will also satisfy the most avid of hikers.

Family at Sweet Creek Falls
Visitors can access the full 2.7 miles of easy to moderate trails and 11 cascading waterfalls through any of the four trailheads: Homestead Trailhead, Sweet Creek Falls Trailhead, Wagon Road Trailhead and Beaver Creek Trailhead. Wherever you choose to start, you’re sure to encounter unforgettable scenic views.

Directions: From Highway 126 in Mapleton, go south on Sweet Creek Rd for 11 miles. For more information and a map visit the Siuslaw National Forest or contact Travel Lane County.

  1. Love this hike! Visitors should be aware that the mostly soft trail turns into a metal grate for a small portion of the hike. I love it, but I know some people want to know about that stuff. LOVE these photos!
