First Weekly Update of 2009

Oregon Coast
The color change is just starting. Look for yellowing big leaf maples and a few red shrubs through the Coast Range.

Willamette Valley
The color change is just starting. Mornings in the Willamette Valley have been crisp so we know the show will begin soon! Drive Highway 126 and Highway 20 east to see the first reds at the Santiam and McKenzie Passes or west to see the first yellows in the Coast Range.

Greater Portland
The color change is just starting. A few brightly colored street trees and ornamentals in gardens hint that fall is on the way.

Mt. Hood/Columbia River Gorge
The color change has not started. It is still summer in the Gorge with highs near 90° this weekend.

Southern Oregon
The color change has not started. Over the weekend Crater Lake National Park froze for the first time this fall, so colors should start changing soon at the higher elevations.

Central Oregon
The color change has not started. Central Oregon is still enjoying summer like days.

Eastern Oregon
The color change has not started.  A few willows along the streams in Southeastern Oregon look a yellowish green but with Eastern Oregon’s warm days and cool evenings it still feels like summer.
